General Information
This annual event is sponsored by Buildings & Grounds Maintenance in conjunction with Peninsula Sanitary Service (PSSI). The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity to dispose of items no longer useful to your department.
If there isn’t a collection point close enough to you to accommodate your anticipated disposal needs, please contact Lieve Maes at Peninsula Sanitary Service 321-4236 before Oct 1st to make arrangements. When you call, please be prepared with a detailed list of the larger items for disposal.
Remember to keep all aisles, walkways, and doorways completely clear of materials.
For help moving bulky or heavy items, submit requests to Event Services for your collection day only. Include the location, size, and quantity of items to be moved and state that it is for the Campus Clean-Up (for any questions, call Event Services at 723-2285). BGM will cover moving costs up to $500.
Services
The following items will be collected on the days indicated on the linked map. All collection points will be monitored by PSSI management and containers will be emptied or exchanged on an as-needed basis throughout the service day.
- Garbage: Please utilize the black garbage dumpsters to dispose of smaller-sized non-capital equipment and waste (non-hazardous only).
- Cardboard: Remember to flatten corrugated cardboard before placing it in the green dumpsters.
- Paper: Placed mixed paper including colored paper, computer paper, file folders, magazines, newspapers, paperboard, phone books, soft and hard backed books, and white paper into specially marked paper recycling carts located at the collection point. (Please no binders or overhead sheets and remove plastic wrapped around any paper materials as they are not recyclable).
- Confidential materials: Confidential materials will be picked up by appointment only. Place a call several days in advance to PSSI (321-4236) to make arrangements.
- Capital Equipment: Capital equipment will NOT be collected. Please call Manuel George (3-2246) or Maurice Brown (6-0800) with any capital equipment questions, or go to Disposal Procedures for more information.
- Bulky items (non-capital equipment): Large dumpsters or debris boxes will be strategically placed throughout your zone on your service day (please refer to your map for exact placement) for disposal of bulky items which are not capital equipment. Remember to submit your requests to Event Services early if you anticipate needing help moving heavy items.
- Electronics: Cannot be placed in the dumpsters. Data handling devices require additional attention due to information security issues. Please contact your Department Property Administrator for assistance with disposal of these items. Equipment with electronic circuitry or cathode ray tubes contains chemicals and heavy metals that can leach into the groundwater and are considered hazardous waste. These include computers, computer monitors, televisions, and other equipment that has electronic circuit boards or cathode ray tubes.— There will be containers at each site for small electronic items with electronic circuit boards such as keyboards, telephones, power cords, printers, fax machines, DVD players, etc.
- Hazardous Materials: Hazardous wastes, including chemicals, chemical waste, biological waste, and radioactive wastes are NOT included in the event. Please follow approved disposal procedures for these materials. If you have any questions, please contact Craig Barney (5-7529) at Environmental Health and Safety.
NEW FOR 2009!
- Reusable Items: Included in this year's program you have an opportunity to send reusable items to Surplus Sales without having to complete an Excess Report for any items that DO NOT have a barcode. Be sure to indicate that you want these items to go to Surplus Sales in Step 5 of the Event Services Request Form.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact your Zone Administrator.
